There is no higher Degree in Freemasonry than that of Master Mason. The Master Mason’s Degree is the third degree conferred by the Masonic Fraternity.
Throughout the years, many organizations have been formed, based on the Masonic Fraternity, and that require members to first be Master Masons. Some of the most well known of these organizations are:
The York Rite of Freemasonry
The York Rite of Freemasonry, also known by some as the Christian Rite, confers degrees in three separate bodies, Chapters, Councils, and Commanderies. Chapters of Royal Arch Masons confer 4 degrees. After receiving those 4 degrees, a candidate can advance to the 3 degrees conferred by a Council of Royal and Select Masters. After completing the Council degrees, a candidate can advance to the 3 degrees, or “Orders” of the Commandery of Knights Templar.
The York Rite is based on the legends of the Knights Templar, and teaches lessons about morality in a Christian context.

The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry confers degrees numbered 4 – 32. Throughout the years past many men have become “32nd Degree” Masons.
The Scottish Rite teaches many lessons about morality, and about how to become a better man.
